Marriage is work! It isn’t that nine to five that you go to daily.  It requires many more hours, there is no such thing as a job description, and you are not in line for a promotion. Yet, it’s so much more rewarding and fulfilling.

Just as your house plants require nurturing to endure the various environmental factors they are exposed to, so does your marriage.

My husband and I spent months being friends before coming involved. I was fresh out of a relationship, and he wasn’t looking for one. After becoming involved we spent a lot of time together going on dates and just kicking it. As the years passed and the children came, those “date nights” dropped by the wayside.

Show him you love him.

We continued to exchange little gifts, finding new ways to heat up the bedroom, and always remembering to let each other know how much we meant to one another. But we forgot to include those all-important date nights. Everything we did was done as a family.

Now that we have an adult son and two teens in the house, we’re carving out that special time once again. I don’t regret our choices, but I have learned from them.

If you have failed to cherish one another it’s not too late. Never forget the things that drew you to your spouse in the first place.  And then work to bring back that magic through communication, kind words, simple gestures, and intimacy.

Take a sensual vacation.

Take a sensual vacation.

5 Tips:

  • Share his/her interest. It’s important for him/her to know he/she has your support.
  • Celebrate the small accomplishments. Recognizing achievements enhances the value of your relationship and builds his/her self-esteem.
  • Laugh and dream together. It strengthens and builds the marriage to endure hard times.
  • Go away together on a private, sensual vacation (couples retreat, cabin for the weekend, etc.).
  • Play together. My husband and I are still like two little kids at times. We’re not ashamed to be us.

Love your spouse, take care of your spouse, and invest the time it takes to make your marriage interesting and exciting. With the right touch of creativity you can rock your marriage.
